Using a
needle & thread has always been a part of my life & I like so many
other Women, learnt to sew at the knee of my Mother & Grandmother.
I started beading in the late 90s, first making sun-catchers, then
later doing bead embroidery on small leather purses and vests
which I had made.
I’m
basically self taught having learnt several different bead weaving
techniques from either books or free tutorials on the internet.
Bead embroidery would have to be my favorite form of beading, as
I love the textures that I am able to achieve with this method.
It’s
amazing how many people comment that I must have a lot of patience
to work with such tiny beads. My response is always ‘You don’t
need patience when it’s something you enjoy.’ They usually nod in
agreement. I'm addicted to these shiny little beads which come in
a rainbow of colors, sizes, shapes and finishes but it's an
addiction which helps me relax in the evening.
I believe
my goal as an artist is to create work that I am completely
satisfied with & to listen to my inner voice that urges me to
create.
